The Background of The Black Death
The Plague is also called the Black Death because of the black spots that the disease leaves behind (scars). Once the plague is inside the human body the bacteria enters the bloodstream. The bacteria can also travel to the liver, kidneys, lungs, and also the brain. Doctors didn't know what to do about the black spots that the disease was leaving behind so it got to the point where people were turning on each other. The roads were filling up with the dead.
Origins
In 1346, the plague was probably transferred from Kaffa (a port on the Black Sea) to Italy through trade routes established by the Italian city-state of Genoa. Many people believe the Plague got to Kaffa from China.
