The 3rd, 4th and Children's Crusades
The Children's Crusade
The Children’s Crusade was made up of two groups. One group was from France and the other group was from Germany. The goal of this crusade was to take over Jerusalem in the year 1212. The 12 year old kid In charge of this crusade is named Stephen Cloyes. In May 1212 Stephen went to King Philip with a note about how he wanted to put together a crusade, King Philip denied this and said that Stephen was too young and to wait until he was older. Stephen did not listen though.Stephen put together a crusade of 30,000 kids in June 1212. This crusade was a major fail. A lot of the children had never actually walked this kind of distance and died of exhaustion.
The 3rd Crusade
The 3rd Crusade was started because in 1187 Saladin took over Jerusalem. When people heard the news they started to organize the Crusade. King Richard started to gather money for the crusade in a greedy way by making unnecessary taxes. In the city of Acre 60,000 men took place in the 3rd Crusade. After battles and battles Saladin and King Richard finally had a truce and made it so Christians could visit Jerusalem without paying tribute.
