Clothing
In the Medieval times the Europeans took clothing to new levels. They made specialized clothing to fit your body, especially for the nobility. During this time period everyone wore clothes. There were no cloths that were wrapped around you and there were no more walking around with bare feet, unless you were a peasant. The nobility wore fancy clothing that was actually sewn to fit you body. These clothes were warm and snuggly fit your body. They were mostly made of wool or silk. The wool was harder to sew because the original style of wool is prickly and can cut you. The silk was nice and smooth but was easy to rip and very expensive. Most of the gowns were huge! Gowns and dresses were made to be large and flowing to show off one's wealth - bigger was better.
Tools and equipment
Clothes were a sign of wealth. If you were a serf you wore thin stockings, with cheap sandals and a really tight jacket. If you were a knight you not only wore armor but you also wore warm tunics, a nice long jacket and leather boots. If you were a vassal you wore fancy tunics, and leather boots. You could not look better than a king or lord because they were wealthier than you and if you showed more wealth you were shunned. Wealthy women often wore large head pieces that consisted of 2 pieces of silk woven into the woman's hair and then twisted into a spiral-like shape. The clothing was really fancy.
Dress Code
During the Middle Ages there were strict dress codes when it came to length of clothing. If a person's shin was visible in public you were shunned. Most or the dresses were so long that they would drag on the ground. People would stare at you if you could see your ankle. Even if you were married you still could not see your wives thigh unless you were married for 2 years. Most wealthy women didn’t even want to show their hands so they covered them with gloves. Tights were often required even under a dress that touched the ground!
Beliefs
Most Europeans wore clothes because they thought that if you were not protected with covering then you would catch a deadly disease like Black Death. To protect themselves they wore long jackets with a headdress or hat, a long tunics with trousers, and leather boots.
