The third Crusade was from 1189-1192. Saladin got all the Moslems of Syria, then went against the latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. The Christians met him in a battle near the lake of Galilee. That battle ended when Saladin and his army defeated the Christians, and the capture of the Christians king. The Christian that were located in Syria, opened the gates to Saladin. At last Jerusalem surrendered, when Saladin and his army wouldn’t let any food or supplies get to them.
The news of Saladin and his army taking over Jerusalem, alarmed the people throughout western Christendom. From all sides the people wanted to get another crusade started. There was a truce between King Richard and Saladin that was to say that the Christians were able to enter Jerusalem without being harmed. They didn’t have to pay tribute, and could visit their holy places with no harm. Then King Richard set on his way back to England, and that was the end to the third Crusade.
The fourth crusade started in 1202, their plan was to attack the Muslims in Egypt. The Crusaders went to Venice to secure their transportation across the Mediterranean. The Venetians agreed to transport them, under one condition that they would capture Zara. The Venetians wanted the Crusaders to capture Zara, which was a Christian city, because they competed with Venice for trade. Then the Venetians also encouraged the crusaders to turn their arms against Constantinople. In 1204 when the Venetians and the Crusaders took down Constantinople, they burnt down a great part of the city, they also destroyed all the monuments statues, paintings, and manuscripts. Crusaders
The victors of the take over hurried to divide the land, between them the lands of the Roman Empire of the east. Venice gained some of the land for Greece, together including the Aegean islands. The chief of the Crusades formed the rest of the territory into the Latin Empire of Constantinople. This Latin Empire only lasted sixty years, at that time greece took power of the Latin Empire.
After the fourth Crusade,Constantinople could no longer deal with the Barbarians Two. Two hundred years later the city very easily gave up and was taken over by the Turks. The responsibility of this horrid disaster, that gave the Turks some control in Europe was all on the Venetians and the nobles in france. The selfish and greedy people turned the fourth Crusade into a political adventure.
