Martin Luther's early life
Martin Luther was born November 10, 1883. He lived in Eisleben,
Germany. His father wanted him to study law. Luther studied law for 4 years then he abandoned it and instead studied religion. After 8 years of religious study, he became a leader of local church system. Luther argued with Pope Leo X about how religion was being practiced by the Roman Catholic Church. To try and prove his point (and to make the Pope look bad), Luther wrote the 95 Theses (a list of beliefs) and posted them on the local church door. In response, the Pope exiled Luther. So Luther then traveled around the world talking with churches and people about his beliefs. People began practicing religion following Luther’s 95 Theses and the Lutheran church was started.

The Diet of Worms
The Diet of Worms was a meeting where the Pope and other high
church officials got together to discuss the Scripture and their teaching plans.
The reason Martin Luther was called to appear at the Diet of Worms was because
he was teaching against what the Pope and the church leaders should be taught,
so they wanted him to say that his beliefs were not true. Luther refused to
recant his teachings because he got his ideas and teachings from the Scripture.
Because he wouldn’t recant, the Emperor declared Luther an outlaw.

The Lutheran Church
Today the Lutheran church can be found almost everywhere in the
world. It is one of the main religions in the United States. Luther’s 95 Theses
were collected together in book called The Catechism which Lutherans study along
with the Bible. In the end, Luther helped create a new religion by sticking by
his own beliefs about Christianity even when others criticized
him.
