Death Tolled
The Bubonic plague also known as the Black Death broke out in Europe during 1348-1351. The plague killed between 25%-60% of the people of Europe. Faith after the plague decreased because so many deaths were clergy men. Later in the middle ages there was a drastic decrease in population due to the bubonic plague. People were dying from starvation because the farmers were charging so much for food. The farmers heard about the plague and stayed out of the cities so no surplus was coming in. In Venice at least three quarters of people died. In Pisa seven-tenths of the inhabitants died, many of the families were completely destroyed.
Effects Of The Bubonic Plague
Also after the bubonic plague there was no society because of all the deaths. The remaining populations were scared to leave their homes; they didn’t want to be infected by patient zero. They would abandon their children like they weren’t even their own. They would leave their children on the streets to suffer then die. Also people didn’t know what to do when their towns got infected. They would flee to cities that were not yet infected.
Peasants Revolt
Due to the illness and the amount of death from the plague, workers became exceedingly scared. Even peasants felt the effects of the new rise in wages. Farmers were able to raise the price of crops which caused the deaths by starvation. In 1358 the peasants of northern France rioted and in 1378 disenfranchised guild members revolted. The social and economic structure in Europe was changed drastically.
