King Henry IV
King Henry IV was a famous king in medieval time. King Henry IV had another name which was Henry of Bolingbroke. He was born April 3, 1367. He died in March 20, 1413 and is buried at Canterbury Cathedral. King Henry died from a disease. Henry was the son of John of Gaunt. John was the third son to another King of England, Edward III. Henry’s mother was Blanche of Lancaster. In his lifetime, King Henry IV had two wives. His first wife was Mary de Bohun and his second wife was Joanna of Navarre. King Henry IV had six children total, two daughters and four sons.

King Henry IV grew up in England at Bolingbroke Castle. He was known as a friendly king who was smart and spoke his mind. Henry took the throne of England by force. He sent King Richard II to prison. King Richard II died in prison. Richard’s death was mysterious and it was suspected that he was murdered. King Richard’s body was shown at St. Paul’s Cathedral so the people could see that he had died.

King Henry IV had to deal with rebellions and assassination attempts. One rebellion that happened during Henry’s reign was from Henry Percy, Earl of Northumberland. Percy and his family tried to overthrow Henry three times. All of the attempts to overthrow failed. Henry Percy fled to Scotland.

In his final years, King Henry was very sick. He had a disease that had serious skin problems. People who studied Henry think his skin disease was leprosy. They also thought he had other health problems. Henry became so sick his son had to take over his duties. King Henry IV was buried in Canterbury Cathedral not Westminster Abbey where other kings were buried.
