Renaissance and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Art was what made the Renaissance interesting and different. Artists of the Renaissance used styles of artists before them but used light and color in new ways. They started using new mediums. Artists were treated differently because art was becoming a religious thing which meant artists were getting paid and recognized for their work. During the Renaissance perspective became often used. Many Renaissance artists influenced other people. Four of them even influenced a TV show.
Raphael- born 1483 and died 1520. The popes liked him. He was an architect of St. Peter's and he did a portrait of Julius the second. Leonardo Da Vinci influenced him.
Michelangelo- born 1475 and died 1564. He was a sculptor, painter, and an architect although he thought of himself as more of an architect. Even during the time of the Renaissance his work stood out.
Leonardo Da Vinci- born 1452 died 1519. Some of his very famous paintings were the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. He was precise and careful and he didn’t rush his work. He was smart and observant. He also drew plans for a tank, helicopter, and canals and road systems. When he would observe nature, he would write and draw in notebooks. He had a very detailed and accurate style.
Donatello- born 1386 and died 1486. He was a sculptor and an artist. He was one of the few artists at that early time to start to work with perspective. His sculpting was very dramatic.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a show that started in the early 1980s but became popular during late 80s and early 90s. It was established by Kevin Eastman. The names of the characters were based off four Renaissance artists. The story line was that ordinary turtles fell into radioactive waste and became the teenage mutant ninja turtles with personalities and names that matched up with four famous Renaissance artists.
