Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most famous inventors and artist of the middle ages. His most famous paintings are the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Some of his most famous inventions are the diving suit and the parachute. Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Republic of Florence. Later on in his life he moved to Milan in 1482. In Milan he made this never forgetting paintings and inventions. |
Diving Suit
Da Vinci made the diving suit so he could help Milan’s army sneak attack their enemies. It was made out of pig leather, and bamboo tubes that the oxygen went through. The goggles for the suit were made out of glass so they could see better underwater. In the suit the divers had sand for extra weight to pull them done underneath ships, they also had a horn that they blew to signal that the mission was successful, the divers also had knifes to cut holes into the enemy ship so they could sink the ship, they also had long ropes so they could attach them self to the ship and land. |
The Last Supper
The Last Supper is showing Jesus at his last supper with his apostles. Leonardo da Vinci used food to paint this painting he used egg yolk and oil paint. The Last Supper suffer a lot of damage over the years because Leonardo painted it on the north wall of a church and it rains mostly on that wall so it was slowly dissolving away. Also a lot of mold grew on this famous painting over the years. Leonardo painted it in Milan, Italy. |
Parachute
Leonardo da Vinci's parachute is made out of linen cloth and wooden poles which held up the pyramid part of the parachute. To prove that Leonardo's invention worked Adrian Nicholas jumped out of a hot-air ballon 3000 meters high. The rider even admitted that the ride was better than most modern parachutes. The parachute was 23 feet long and 12 feet tall. |
